Beauty and the .... Axman?

Now, never in a million years did I ever think I would let my child dress in something so scary, and I'm sure I never would if it weren't for one small thing....autism.

In years past we have worked so hard just to get L1 to put on a costume at all. For his first 3 years I could not get him to dress up or trick or treat at all- and that was before I even knew WHY he was this way. But he has a fascination with all things spooky and scary- he loves them. Now why I do not know, I cannot even watch shows or movies that are slightly scary or have any suspense in them whatsoever. I even turn off the tv if a comercial for one of those prime time crime shows comes on.... so he has not seen lots of scary stuff.

He came up with this years costume all on his own. He pulled his play fireman's ax from his toxbox and proclaimed that he wanted to be a an "Axman" and then asked to go to the store to find a black cape. I was NOT happy about his choice of costume, but..... remembering the struggle of past halloweens I was floating on air that he did want to dress up at all. So... off we went to the costume store and you can see what he picked out to go with his ax. Now I did ask him what he thought an Axman did and he told me "they run around and carry an ax". Well, OK.
